40 Days to a Better Me: Day 16–Cowboy Up!

a href=”https://dantoops.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/lent.jpg”>“Suck it up Nancy!’ Those were the words of Frank Barone to his sons Robbie and Raymond on the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond.. Frank would feel that his sons were acting a little too whimpy when faced with unfair situations. Frank’s words and tone would come off too strong and cold but the message he was sharing (though poorly done) was true. The message he was trying to get across to his sons was that life is unfair, deal it!

We are more familiar with the term Cowboy Up! It means that when life throws you to the ground like a bucking bronco, you get up, dust yourself off and keep going. It also mean to quit your complaining and be a man. And, when the going gets tough, get tough right back! Cowboy up and turn that can’t into a can!

Why should you learn to Cowboy Up? Because life ain’t fair! The sooner you come to the realization of this fact the better off you will be. Life teaches us some hard and difficult lessons. Life will throw things at you that you do not deserve. You will face situations and circumstances that are beyond your control. You will be treated unfairly and unjustly. So, what are you suppose to do about it? You can lay around and wallow in self pity and believe that what you are facing ss unique to you. But here’s the truth cupcake: You aren’t the only one who has ever faced what you are facing. You are not the only one who has been done wrong. You are not the only person on the planet who has ever suffered an injustice. You are not the only one that life has thrown out of the saddle! So, are you gonna lay there and cry about it? Quit crying and Cowboy up!

If life were all daisies and rainbows we would all be a bunch of weak individuals. But because life hands us some difficult situations, we are able to really know what life is about. It is beacuse of battle that we can really appreciate peace. It is because of injustice that we learn how to treat others with respect and dignity. It is only by going through the dark times that we can come into light! It is only through the pain of life that we find our inner strength! The old syaing “no pain no gain” is true. A little bit of hurt can go a long way into making us better people.

If you ever have watched Professional Bull Riding you know that every bull rider has been thrown. No matter how good he is he has been tossed by a bull. These guys have been bumped, gored and stomped by a freight train with legs. Yet, they get back in the shute and do it again. I like what the prophet Micah said “”Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; when I fall, I will arise…(Micah 4:7). When life throws you, you gotta get back up, dust yourself off and Cowboy up!
