Let’s Be Clear

Psalm 1: 1-3 NLT
Oh, the joys of those who do not
follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners,
or join in with mockers.
2 But they delight in the law of the LORD,
meditating on it day and night.
3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do.

“Be absolutely clear about who you are and what you stand for. Refuse to compromise” (Brian Tracy)

Some people are under the impression that success, prosperity, good health and great relationships are the result of chance, luck or divine destiny. To embrace that idea is to deny the reality of that in life nothing just happens. Everything we experience is the direct result of cause and effect. Success, prosperity, good health and great relationships are the effects of causes. So, are poverty, poor health and dysfunctional relationships.

One of the key characteristics shared by all successful people is that of integrity. Integrity is simply being absolutely clear about who you are and what you stand for. It is holding fast to knowing what is right and doing that. Successful people will not compromise their beliefs for any short term gain. This is because they understand that what goes around comes around. And, it will not be long before that comprise will come back to haunt them.

I recently brought to the attention of my state representative concerning some improprieties and blatant human resource violations concerning a state funded child care program here in Florida. When all of the agencies and individuals involved in the issue were confronted, each shifted the blame and lied-lied-lied. Many knew first hand that some of their practices are a clear violation of their state endorsed contract, but they feared losing their jobs. So, the short term gain was to turn a blind eye and keeping your pay check. And these are people who assess the quality of care for children. And, they are being paid by our tax dollars.

To be successful you must stick to your guns and never compromise your beliefs and integrity. Your beliefs and integrity define what kind of person you are. You cannot be a bold face lair and claim to honest. You cannot lie, cheat and steal because the ends justify the means. No-wrong is wrong. And any short term gain will be short lived. Eventually people will come to see you as a person who cannot be trusted and you will undermine everything you hope to achieve.

If you keep your integrity and never compromise your belief’s you are well on your way to a life of success.
