A Roll of the Dice

I have never been attracted to gambling. I just don’t get it. I work for every dime I get. And, I am not about to throw it away with the flip of a card or a roll of the dice. I just don’t understand the gambling mentality. I mean think about it: if you are in a casino you’re playing in their house, at their tables, standing on their carpet and enjoying all the beverages they bring as long as you play. The carpet, tables and free drinks say one thing—there are a whole lot of losers who pay for that stuff. Odds are you will leave in the whole or break even. That’s the truth. To believe you will walk out of casino a millionaire is just stupid.

Lottery living makes a life poor and that is poor in every sense of the word. You just can’t wing it through life. Yet, millions of people roll the dice of their lives every day. Then they’re shocked when nothing of any substance materializes. Well shazam! Our universe is governed by laws—not chance, luck, fate or divine destiny. The laws of our universe say for every cause there is an effect. If you want your life to be productive, successful and secure then you must:

• Decide to make it so
• Find out what other people have done to achieve what it is you want
• Do it.
There is no other way!

Good finances, good health and good relationships just don’t happen. You just don’t wake up one morning and win the good life lottery. A good life (effect) is the result of making the right decisions (cause). There is no amount of luck, chance, fate or prayer that will change dumb causes into good effects.

Personally, I wish someone would have shared this bit of information with me thirty years ago. It would have saved me from a whole of stupid. I see where my shortsightedness not only affected me, but my family as well. However, there is nothing I can do to erase the past. There is nothing I can do to change what has already happened. I will not waste my time with the “what if” scenarios. What’s done is done. But I also understand that I can change my future by changing things today—starting with my thinking.

The Proverb says “Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice…you will…find the knowledge…” That kind of slaps lottery thinking in the face. It put the responsibility for a better life squarely in your hands. And, that is where it belongs not in a roll of the dice. Remember: nothing just happens.
