Where Are We Going And Why Are We in a Hand Basket?

To hell in a hand basket! Surprised I’ve not seen a book by that title. With all of the doom and gloom preachers and their parroting followers, it seems that someone would have a published something called that by now.

There seems to be a lot of people who are quick to judge the world and say how profound wickedness has become. They point to all of the atrocities that have taken place in recent times and coupled them with all of the natural disasters and concluded this is the most evil generation the world has ever produced. But I wonder if it really is.

I not seen the hordes come sweeping down the steppe into Europe burning and killing everything in sight. I’ve not witnessed the black plagued that’s estimated to have killed nearly half of Europe’s population. I’ve not seen any cataclysmic events of biblical proportion. Yet, I am told repeatedly that the world is full of darkness. Yep. We are all on our way to hell in a hand basket….but I don’t think it’s true.

Personally, I believe that man is inherently good. I believe that all people have a desire to do the right thing. And, I believe that there is far more good in the world than bad. The Apostle Paul said “…where sin abounded, grace abounded much more” (Romans 5.20 NKJV). I’m not implying that there is no evil in the world. I know there is. Unspeakable evil is present among us. Poverty, disease, famine and war affect millions of people. I’m just saying that if we make the bad our focus that is all we see. And, we fail to see the hope that each of us can bring to our world.

Jesus said; “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your GOOD WORKS (emphasis mine) and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5.16 KJV). So, instead of packing your little light in a bushel and waiting for Jesus to come take you away from this big bad evil world, take your little light and let it shine. Feed the hungry, give to the poor and help those in need. Do good and make a difference. The only way for light to be seen is for it to shine. So shine.
