Time Keeps Slipping Away

“Teach us to realize the brevity of life,so that we may grow in wisdom.” Psalm 90.12 New Living Translation (NLT)

Time is a valuable and irreplaceable resource. Time is far more valuable than money, possessions or prestige. If one loses their home, they can find another one. If one loses their friends, they can always make new ones. But, if you lose your time, you can never replace it. For once time is lost it is gone forever. Therefore, it is essential that we understand the value of our time and that we cherish it above everything else. Time has been referred to as the “coin of life.” Therefore, we must strive to spend it and invest it wisely. Because how we spend our time is the essence of our lives.

Time management is probably an overused phrase in our success driven western culture. No doubt one has heard this phrase used numerous times. We know it is important. We know that we should. But somehow we never quite seem to get around to doing it. Why is that? I feel that the reason most do not manage their time effectively is because they live with no real sense of purpose. When discover a sense of purpose for our lives it provides us with the energy to make the most of it. Purpose helps us to focus on the things that really matter.

Ask yourself some questions:
1. What is it that you think you can contribute to the world?
2. Do you have something that you feel you must do?
3. If you could do anything and time and money were not an issue what would it be?
4. What do you want to accomplish?
5. If you had one thing to accomplish this year what would it be?
6. Are you spending your time to accomplish the things you really want to do?

Some have said that life has no meaning, no purpose so stop looking for it. Here is what I say—the real meaning life has is what you give it. If you feel that life is a waste of time, then it will be. If you feel that life has no reason or rhyme, then your life will reflect that. But if you feel that life is a precious gift then you will live each day accordingly. Your life will have as much meaning as you attach to it. So make it as meaningful as you possibly can. Give your life a purpose. Live for that purpose and you will see your time wisely spent.
